Spain dreams to win the World Cup have become true.

This was a victory for artistry over cynicism. For stylists over scrappers. For artists over assassins. Most of all, it was a sweet, sweet victory for the neutral.
Spain may have started this tournament poorly. It may have struggled to score the goals that are needed to win matches. But this morning the Spaniards confirmed themselves as the champions of the world and they did it in the best spirit of the beautiful game.
Normally, there is plenty of sympathy for the losers in a final. The sympathy quotient may be pretty low. Referee Howard Webb deserves more. This was a brute of a game to referee. He could have issued two straight reds in the first half - to Van Bommel and De Jong. As it was he handed out more than a dozen bookings.
